Swallow Your Pride

I had written “The Truth Is” for Charice and was hoping to produce the record.  She cut her vocals in my studio – and they came out great!  But the label decided to use a different producer to make the record.  Which, to put it mildly, didn’t make my day.     So when I got invited to the studio one night to hear Charice cutting vocals on the song, my first response was…well, not printable in a family blog.

Fortunately my longtime collaborator and very close friend Allan Rich said “Maybe we should go down there and just keep an eye on things.”  I reluctantly agreed and went to the studio.  Turns out Charice was having a lot of problems pronouncing certain English words…so Allan and I kept rewriting the lyrics.  On the spot.  Line after line after line….

Boy was I glad I went to the studio that night.  If I hadn’t, I strongly suspect Charice’s record would not have been telling the “Truth”.  🙂  The moral of the story:  don’t let your pride and/or hurt feelings get in the way of what is always our goal – to have great artists cut our songs and cut them the right way!
